Shenandoah University: 150 Years of Academic Success

Shenandoah’s mission to educate and inspire reflective thinkers was established with its foundation in 1875. Rev. A. P. Funkhouser originally founded the institution as Dayton High School before changing its name to Shenandoah Seminary in 1877. At this time, the small school provided members of the Church of the United Brethren — now known as the United Methodist Church — with higher education.

By 1991, the institution had been officially named Shenandoah University and was serving hundreds of students across the region through its Schools of Arts and Sciences, Health Professions, and Business. Today, Shenandoah serves more than 4,450 students on five different campuses and through an inclusive online leaning platform.
