To apply for the Shenandoah MPH, you’ll need a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with a preferred minimum GPA of 3.0. Applicants below 3.0 are considered holistically, with professional experience in public health, healthcare, or community service taken into account. No GRE or GMAT is required, removing a common barrier for working professionals. Application materials include a resume or CV, a personal statement explaining your interest in public health and your professional goals, and unofficial transcripts for initial review — official transcripts are required before enrollment. For those with prior graduate-level coursework, up to six graduate credits may transfer from an accredited program. International students who are permanent U.S. residents are welcome to apply; F-1 visas are not issued for this online program. Full requirements and next steps are available on the admissions page.
While the MPH program is not CEPH‑accredited, it is intentionally designed to deliver a rigorous, high‑quality education grounded in applied public health practice that prepares graduates for public health careers or for industry certifications. The broader public health labor market including healthcare systems, nonprofits, NGOs, private sector, consulting, tech, and corporate health tend to prioritize competencies and technical skills over formal programmatic accreditation. The curriculum emphasizes rural and underserved populations, real‑world problem solving, and workforce‑relevant competencies, and is taught by experienced faculty actively engaged in the field. This structure allows for flexibility, innovation, and responsiveness to emerging public health challenges—making the program a strong choice for students seeking practical skills, professional impact, and meaningful career preparation.
The Shenandoah online MPH can be completed in as little as 18 months, making it one of the more efficient paths to a graduate public health credential for working professionals. The 42-credit curriculum includes 12 core courses, two practicum courses, and one elective, taught in small cohorts of 10–15 students to maintain a collaborative learning environment. Because the program is designed with working professionals in mind, you don’t need to pause your career to earn your degree. Start dates are available multiple times per year — visit the admissions page to find an upcoming enrollment window.
The Shenandoah MPH is particularly focused on preparing graduates to serve rural and underserved communities — a critical and growing area of need. As of 2024, approximately 65% of rural communities in the U.S. face public health worker shortages, creating strong demand for qualified professionals with graduate-level credentials. Graduates are prepared for roles including Public Health Program Manager and Health Education Specialist, with 13% growth projected in community health professions by 2033. The healthcare industry as a whole adds nearly two million jobs per year. Core competencies developed in the program include epidemiology, biostatistics, health program planning, social determinants of health, and health communication — a skill set applicable across government agencies, nonprofits, hospitals, and research organizations. View the full career outcomes section on the MPH program page.
The Shenandoah MPH includes two required practicum courses, which give you structured opportunities to apply and integrate your public health knowledge in real-world professional settings. These applied learning experiences are a core part of what distinguishes a graduate public health credential from self-directed study. The practicum is built into the 42-credit curriculum alongside 12 core courses and one elective, so it doesn’t extend your timeline. For students interested in global health experience, the program also offers optional participation in the Global Experiential Learning (GEL) program — past trips have taken students to Switzerland, Uganda, and Haiti — with GEL participation eligible to count as elective credit. See the full curriculum structure on the MPH courses page.
