Employer Tuition Reimbursement
Some employers reimburse employees for part or all of their tuition. To determine if you are eligible for tuition reimbursement, follow these steps:
- Visit your human resources department or company website and request a copy of the tuition reimbursement policy. After you’ve enrolled at Shenandoah, you can fax this document to the Financial Aid Office to begin the process.
- Determine your total eligibility amount. You will have to determine if the award is for the calendar year or fiscal year.
- Once you are enrolled, an engagement specialist will guide you through the tuition reimbursement process. The Office of Financial Aid will issue an agreement for you to sign, with the tuition reimbursement amounts and due dates.
- Complete a Release of Information Letter. This form gives the University permission to send your employer an invoice for your courses and other required information.
Tip:
Ask your human resources department if they have a tax cap. A tax cap is when your company pays a set amount and then will begin to deduct income taxes from any additional reimbursement.
Note:
Prior to starting each session, you must send in a new tuition reimbursement voucher. The voucher lists the courses that are covered by your employer for the session with specific coverage amounts. The Office of Financial Aid will keep this on record and send your employer an invoice for the reimbursement amount when you have completed your course(s).
If Your Employer Doesn’t Offer Tuition Benefits
Even if your organization doesn’t have an official tuition reimbursement policy or program, you may be able to work something out. Talk to your employer about the benefits of their employees earning a degree.
