Military Benefits

As a Yellow Ribbon School, Shenandoah is proud to provide our veteran and active military students with affordable education programs. We accept students funding their education with the Post-9/11 GI Bill® and the Active Duty Tuition Assistance Program. We also grant credit for non-collegiate sponsored instruction, such as the armed services and testing-service examinations.

Employer Tuition Reimbursement

Some employers reimburse employees for part or all of their tuition. To determine if you are eligible for tuition reimbursement, follow these steps:

Tip:

Ask your human resources department if they have a tax cap. A tax cap is when your company pays a set amount and then will begin to deduct income taxes from any additional reimbursement.

Note:

Prior to starting each session, you must send in a new tuition reimbursement voucher. The voucher lists the courses that are covered by your employer for the session with specific coverage amounts. The Office of Financial Aid will keep this on record and send your employer an invoice for the reimbursement amount when you have completed your course(s).

If Your Employer Doesn’t Offer Tuition Benefits

Even if your organization doesn’t have an official tuition reimbursement policy or program, you may be able to work something out. Talk to your employer about the benefits of their employees earning a degree.

Advancing your education may enable you as an employee to be more efficient and effective on the job.

Programs like tuition reimbursement make employees feel valued and promote company loyalty.

Supporting advanced education makes it easier to promote employees from within the company, rather than spending money and time on outside recruiting for high-level positions.
