Online Master’s in Teaching Concentrations

With Shenandoah’s online master’s in teaching program, you’ll choose a concentration that ensures you gain the right skills for your chosen area of teaching. Along with core teaching courses, each concentration requires you to complete focus-specific courses and hands-on learning required for licensure in the state of Virginia.

The online master’s in teaching program offers a CAEP-accredited curriculum that is intentionally aligned with Virginia licensing requirements to ensure you graduate ready for the next step in your career. Depending on the concentration you choose, you’ll complete 12-16 courses for a total of 30-42 credit hours. Through this accelerated program, you will earn the credential necessary to transition from provisional licensure to a full professional teaching license in 16-24 months.

SU’s online master’s in teaching program is designed for working educators who currently have a provisional teaching license. Submit your application today to take the next step toward a professional license.

Degree and Minimum GPAA bachelor’s degree from an accredited university; Preferred minimum GPA of 3.0, however, applicants with GPA below a 3.0 are welcome to apply and will be reviewed holistically.
Transcripts
  • Transcripts from all previously attended institutions are required. Unofficial transcripts can be used for initial admissions review; official transcripts are required prior to enrollment.
  • Based on VDOE requirements, additional content coursework may be required depending on area of licensure sought and transcript review.

Additional Requirements

Must be the current instructor of record in a K-12 classroom and hold a Virginia provisional teaching license. Must also submit the following:

  • Copy of provisional teaching license
  • One letter of recommendation
  • A 2-3 page goal statement addressing your background and educational goals
  • Resume

International Students

If you are an international student, you must demonstrate proficiency in the English language. To do so, you may be required to meet the minimum requirement for one of the following exams: TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, or Duolingo English Test (DET).
